We are still really struggling with getting my stepson to cooperate with his school work. I recently realized the phrase, “Thank goodness his his head is attached or he would forget that too” really is true. We can’t get that kid to remember anything. He has been grounded for five days now and everyday it is a new excuse. I got distracted. I forgot. I don’t know where it is. I think it is in my desk. Don’t know what to do. Losing my mind. I told my husband tonight I was going to make a couple of t-shirts for him to wear to school that said -
Ask me if I remembered my math book
As me if I remembered my agenda
Ask me if I remembered to bring my homework
Hubby didn’t even crack a smile. Come on, he knows I am kidding. sortof
So if anyone has any great tips on how to get a 9 year old boy to remember to bring stuff home from school that doesn’t require me actually attending with him, I would love to hear it. We need to get his attention in some other way. And I haven’t a clue as to how.
If you don’t know about Rocks in my Dryer yet you have to go read the blog. LOVE it. Every Wednesday, she has Works for me Wednesday where you can post about some great thing that works for you. And the tips are really helpful and it is good traffic for your blog.

A New Beginning
I know it sounds silly, but I can be REALLY scatterbrained and I have to make huge efforts to not forget things. I make lists. I have a “Fat Lil Notebook” that I always keep with me and jot things down in. I have done this since middle school. I would check it everyday before I left school for the day. Before I went to bed I would make a list of everything I needed for the next day. I also have a weekly list. Things I need in the following week. It sounds complicated and tedious but it works for me. Sometimes just writing it down helps me remember. He could do it right after he brushes his teeth or some other activity that he does everyday. Just a thought….
